Vikings secure top spots in MSA National Swim Series 2019

Report by Caz Makin, Publicity Officer, Club Recorder and Coach

The Masters Swimming Australia National Swim Series boasts a mix of Long and Short Course meets across Australia.

Vikings had two swimmers: Caz Makin and Brian Curtis who both placed first in their respective age groups.

Caz also placed first in her age group in the 2018 series, making this two years in a row, but this year she topped it off by finishing as the top overall point-scoring female in the 2019 series.

Caz participated in 4 meets, and Brian in 5 meets.

There were 1267 swimmers in the Series, 638 women and 629 men.

How the Swim Series works

The best swims from 5 swim meets are used so as not to disadvantage those who do not participate in all 8 Swim Series meets. A minimum of two Series meets need to be entered and swum to be eligible for awards.

Points Calculation

The formula only works with FINA Events because a point base is required (world record = 1000 points). At a swim series meet, only the 50, 100, 200, 400 IM, 400 Free, 800 Free, and 1500 Free are eligible for the Swim Series awards; i,e. no 25m events, no form strokes over 200m, no relay legs, etc.

Progressive points for the series are available on the MSA Results Portal.
